About the Festival
Aims and Objectives: Attakkalari India Biennial
The Attakkalari Biennial encourages interaction and exchange of ideas between artists from different cultures and facilitates international co-productions and collaborative projects. Through this process it also creates a space for Indian artists to interact with their international counterparts and aesthetics. This in turn helps initiate discourse on developments in dance and allied fields and contributes to the development of the language of movement arts.
To empower dance makers and encourage innovation, one of the major aims of the festival is to place movement expression within the domain of contemporary arts and India's mainstream cultural space.
Even though India is arguably a super power in terms of its rich cultural heritage, particularly dance and performing arts, the country is yet to invest substantially in developing these rich resources to make its artists and their works relevant and valuable on the contemporary global performing stage. The festival will provide a unique platform for Indian artists to be in touch with what is cutting edge in the international scene and empower them to create works that can stand alone with the best of the world over a period of time.
