The SRTT colloquium on Movement Arts on 8, 11 & 14 February 2009 in Bengaluru
'Conversations' is conceived as an interconnected set of discourses that involve practical demonstrations, performances as well as theoretical articulations, analysis, discussions and reflections on different aspects of the performing arts that are relevant to contemporary Indian Movement Arts. Instead of the usual one-day colloquium, Attakkalari India Biennial offers a unique backdrop and a larger scope for these discourses as several key practitioners and thinkers on the subject will be in Bangalore to participate in the festival.
As the festival will feature cutting-edge works from diverse cultural sources, the colloquium will be able to weave some of the thoughts articulated in the performances as well as 'After Show Discussions' with the choreographers into the three-tier deliberations planned for the event. Attakkalari aims also to bring artists and thinkers from other disciplines to participate in the discussions to give it a broader framework.
'Conversations' will have three distinct parts addressing three areas of focus. They are:
Body and Image – This session will showcase works by young and emerging choreographers and give them constructive critical feedback. It will also focus on the emerging trends and aspirations of the new generation.
Movement – This session will feature case studies of choreographers' movement generation strategies. It will investigate the principles of movement and aesthetics governing their vocabulary.
Body, Movement, Thought and Technology – This concluding seminar will bring the thoughts from the previous two 'Conversations' sessions as well as any strands articulated in the evening performances and 'after-show discussions' into
